This September 11th, 2010 the Yavapai County VISTA Project (YCVP) is teaming up with the United States Veterans Initiative for the agency’s annual Stand Down. Commonly practiced in times of war, a Stand Down is an opportunity for active duty service members to recuperate from battle. Stand Downs are now popular across the United States to alleviate the struggles homeless veterans face daily. The Stand Down provides health and legal services to participants, along with clothing, food, hygiene kits, winter gear, a sense of community and camaraderie.
YCVP is excited to participate in the Stand Down as their project for the 2010 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance. In 2009, President Barack Obama issued a formal call to service for the nation to engage in meaningful projects on September 11th. The day allows for individuals to come together and reflect on the strength and unity of their communities, and the possibilities before them to rise above the challenges of the future.
Please join YCVP in their efforts to increase community involvement and sustain the spirit of compassion! If you’re interested in participating with the Stand Down by donating your time or resources, please email Jacquie Welsh at events@ycvp.org by September 1st!
